ickle Travel Tips ...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To follow on from our travelling with kids - plane series, this month's tips will give you ideas on entertaining kids at airports.

I am a big fan of stopping over in a country for a few days to break a long plane journey up. However, if time is a factor, then transiting at an airport may be the next best thing to stretch your legs and give your kids a run around! Most international airports are great for entertaining the little ones. Here are some tips from our experiences:

* Set up base camp! Find some comfy chairs so you can rest and keep a close eye on your hand luggage. We tend to find a spacious area close to food outlets so we can feed the kids, which passes some time.

* If you've used a portable DVD on your flight or your mobile is running low, this is a good time to re-charge batteries. Have a look around as there are power points available for using laptops etc. Just make sure you have the correct adaptor.

* If you're travelling with a partner, this is a great opportunity for one person to have a rest (and look after bags) whilst the other takes the children off on an adventure.

* Simple things like - going up and down escalators or lifts, visiting toy shops etc will keep them amused for ages.

* A great tip - pack a small ball or some balloons which you can blow up to play in a corner. Pack some fly swats to play tennis with the balloons - my boys love it!

* Most airports tend to have play areas for little ones. Ask at Information Desk or check out the maps dotted around.

* Another great tip - quite a lot of airports (especially Hong Kong, Singapore etc) have trains or light rails that connect each concourse. The kids love them! Great for just sitting on and hopping off to pass some time. We sat on the light rail in Singapore to get our little one off to sleep in the push chair, as he was getting over tired. Worked wonders!

Do you have any other tips on keeping your little ones amused at airports, whether its transiting or when you're checking in? Please click here to share them with me.

'Till next time ...
